Osteopathy has a natural ‘hands on’ approach to healthcare. Osteopaths are trained to recognise and treat many causes of pain and it is an established system of diagnosis and manual treatment. They use their hands both to investigate the underlying causes of pain and to carry out treatment using a variety of techniques, ranging from gentle soft tissue mobilisations, careful and specific joint manipulations, to exercises and postural advice.
When you visit your osteopath for the first time they will listen to you and take a full medical case history, then this will be followed by a thorough clinical examination. Once an initial diagnosis has been achieved, you will then be treated as an individual, with a personal and specific treatment plan being developed to ensure the most prompt and appropriate course of action. This should include pain relief, prevention of a reoccurrence and long term structural, functional, and postural wellbeing.
There are a wide range of symptoms and conditions that can be helped by osteopathic treatment:
• Back pain and sciatica
• Neck and shoulder pains
• Headaches
• Sports injuries
• Painful joints
• Repetitive strain injuries
• Trapped nerves
• Postural & occupational strains.
